Much discussion has taken place in the church as to what Paul meant by this passage. I believe the most likely explanation is that a group of women were gossiping amongst themselves and disturbing the rest of the congregation. We know that women could talk in the church (church being a group of Christians by the way and not a building) because there were female prophets in the church (cf Acts 21:9) and not speaking in the church would certainly limit their usefulness. It is believed that women in Corinth were sat in a different part of the meeting to the men, as was the custom of that time, so it is possible that they would find themselves drawn into gossip and thus disturb everyone else.
I hope Deedat is not trying to suggest that Islam is better for women’s right than Christianity because that would make for an interesting discussion.
