Examining the Jehovah Witnesses' claim about the year 1914
This insightful document and accompanying Youtube video was Put together by Jared who is an exJehovah Witness (exJW) and has a successful Youtube channel called Exiles and Pilgrims.
The document which is a 16 page pdf is well researched work on the claim by the Watchtower organisation that Jesus returned to the earth to rule in the year 1914.
In the document Jared goes through all of the reasons given by the Watchtower for the return of Jesus in 1914. He bit by bit dismantles their claims of evidence from the Bible and shows that not only does the Biblical case and the history not stack up for their case but also the Watchtower organisation actually agrees with a lot of the historical evidence that dismantles their claims. Often Jared does this by quoting and linking to Watchtower’s own sources.
Jared raises this key question.
Big problem
One of the big problems that the JWs have is their calculations for 1914 is based on a mistaken date for the fall of Jerusalem in 607 BCE, but in reality the date is 587/586 BCE. There are other issues with their calculation on the date as well, but check out Jared’s guide for more on this.
